OPERATIONS OF 190 COMPANIES TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources revealed that it had temporarily suspended the operations of 190 mineral and coal companies. The reason for the suspension is related to production that exceeds the Work Plan and Budget (WPB) that has been specified by the government. (Kontan.co.id)


31.9 BILLION TONS OF RESERVES WITH 959 COMPANIES

Data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources shows that Indonesia has coal reserves at 31.9 billion tons. In addition, there are 959 mining companies operating in Indonesia, making this country the largest number of coal mining companies in the world. (Liputan6.com)


DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION REACHING AT 300 MILLION TONS

DECREASING COAL IMPORTS AT 13%

China's coal imports from Indonesia's top supplier in August 2025 decreased at 13% on an annual basis to 17.6 million tons, according to customs data. However, imports from Indonesia increased at 33.6% compared to July. For the January-August period, shipments from Indonesia decreased at 15% yoy to 121.76 million tons. (CNBCInd)


ASIAN THERMAL COAL IMPORTS HAVING HIGH INCREASE

Citing data from commodity analytics provider Kpler, Asia's thermal coal imports highly increased to 85.34 million tons in August. It increased at 6.4 million tons from July and for the first time exceeding at 81 million tonnes since December 2024. (CNBCInd)


HAVING RESERVES AT 207 BILLION TONS

The report released by China's Ministry of Natural Resources shows that by the end of 2022, the total national coal reserves reached at 207 billion tons, with Shanxi storing approximately at 48.3 billion tons of these total reserves. (CNBCInd)


ESTABLISHING AT 130 NEW COAL MINES

By the end of 2024, Shanxi Province, China's coal-rich region, has built at 55 pilot and demonstration mines for green mining. By 2025, Shanxi plans to establish at 130 new intelligent coal mines. (CNBCInd)


COAL PLAYING AN IMPORTANT ROLE

Director General of Mineral and Coal, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tri Winarno emphasized that the coal sector still plays an important role in the Indonesian economy. The state revenue from coal is targeted at IDR123 trillion this year, and it has now reached at 80 percent. (Kontan)

AVERAGE COAL PRODUCTION

Indonesia's coal production averages over 700 million tons per year. In 2024 production reached at 836 million tons, and this year is targeted at 739 million tons. GLOBAL EXPORT VOLUME IN 2025

DME HAVING PROSPECT TO BE DEVELOPED

Indonesia imports at 4.6 million tons of LPG annually. This is an opportunity for coal to be used to develop the DME (Dimethyl Ether) as a substitute for LPG. THERMAL COAL IMPORTS TO ASIA
